I never really know what to tell people when they ask me how I've been adapting to married life. It's not like I have anything super glamorous to report. "Fine, I guess?". Fun? Yeah, definitely fun. But pretty darn normal :). Normal is good.
After one month of being wed, Daniel and I have been able to come up with some sort of merry routine. This is how any given weekday will go:
I'm usually the first one to wake. I get up, make coffee and start getting ready for work. Meanwhile, I've already woken Daniel up with my loud, clumsy noises. He gets himself a cup of coffee and we sit on our one and only second-hand couch without saying a single word. We do this for like 10 minutes each morning. Then, when it's time for me to go and catch the train, we give each other handshakes (yes, handshakes) and part ways.
I'm not really sure what Daniel does during the time I'm gone. School, poetry, read, play games, rearrange the house? Anyway, we reunite about 11 hours later like nothing has changed. By the time I get home though, it's already about 7:45 pm. Daniel is usually where I left him, on the couch, but almost always, pretty close to being emaciated. He has to wait until I get back to eat and all he probably has had all day is just bread & bacon ( things that don't require much usage of our a little kitchenette).
As you can infer, my culinary skills, , which I unashamedly attribute to living with like 27 girls in college, are far more sophisticated than those of ol' Daniel. So far I've made ribs, pot roast, asian noodles, chicken parmesan, and breaded tilapia. But no fear, my feminist friends. He doesn't let me touch the dishes, and I would much rather eat my own food than bread and bacon on a daily basis.
After dinner's made, we plop on our couch and watch Conan on TBS. We haven't gotten used to eating at our dining table, and I don't think we ever will unless we have third parties. Then, our bellies full with dinner, we either stick around if there is a mediocre movie to watch ( the lastest movie we watched was Constantine in which Keanu Reeves is some sort of demon-fighter - we can't handle Oscar-winning, tear-wrenching dramas at this hour). If Speed or whatnot is unavailable, we listen to financial advising podcasts (TRUE STORY).
Then, we sleep and repeat.
But don't let that fool you into thinking we're adults. Our most recent hobby has been reenacting Muhammad Ali's greatest matches within the confines of our living room (my thigh is currently bruised). We play videogames in the dark. We eat ice cream straight from the tub. Sometimes I feel like being married is like being in college without the homework and the parents and the instability of relationships.
So for all you all girls telling me "SHOOT YOU ARE A MARRIED WOMAN, ELLY!" No fears. I think the only difference between you and me is precisely this: I eat more red meat than you and have an IRA.
