visited confucius's hometown, which turned out to be quite boring because it was only an empty tourist attraction. and what was worse is that i didn't get to believe half of what our tour guide was saying about the place. a lot of history was lost apparently when the red guards destroyed anything that had to do with intellectuals, especially confucius. it felt very propagandist and very frustrating.
outside of confucius's temple, a lot of vendors sold unique souvenirs.

but the next day was great. climbed on top of Mount Tai, basically the most famous mountain here where all the emperors had climbed. It was pretty amazing. It's known for having the most beautiful sunrise in all of China. In the past, people would climb for days to the top of the mountain to worship the "unknown god" ... A god so big that they couldn't build a temple at the very top to do him justice.

here's me and kristin on top of Mt. Tai. we got rained on. garden state, anyone?

hopped back on an 8 hour overnight train through the country, and now i'm back here in beijing. i will write more when i'm not as tired.
